22 February 2022 – The opening ceremony is scheduled for tomorrow, with regular cable car service starting on Thursday
Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomašević announced at a press conference that the Sljeme cable car will start operating this week, more precisely on February 24.
“It’s a project that we inherited and we did everything to complete it and put it into service. I can now say that the last work permit for the cable car was obtained yesterday. The cable car will have a launch ceremony tomorrow. It will be open to the public from this Thursday,” Tomašević said.
As reported by Poslovny Dnevnikthe mayor announced that the cable car will operate from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends.
Tomašević also stated that the total cost of the cable car project currently amounts to 537 million kuna and that the frequently shared information in the media mentioning figures above 700 million kuna includes VAT which should not be taken into consideration. .
“There will never be a profit from the cable car,” Tomašević said and shared more information about ticket prices. There are three price categories and the tickets will have promotional prices for some time after the cable car is in operation.
The first category includes citizens with a monthly ZET pass, as the cable car is part of the public transport network. The ZET company is the investor and manager of the cable car. This category will have the lowest ticket prices: 30 kuna one way and 50 kuna round trip.
Tomašević pointed out that the prices will increase after the end of the promotional period.
The second category includes all residents of Zagreb, since it is they who will repay the investment through the city budget. In this category, one-way tickets for adults will cost 40 kunas and return tickets 70 kunas. Tickets for older children and the elderly will cost 25 kunas one way and 40 kunas round trip, while young children and people with disabilities will use the cable car for free.
The third category includes all passengers who do not reside in Zagreb and who do not have a ZET pass and who, as such, will pay the full price to ride the cable car. Adult one-way tickets will cost 75 kuna and return tickets 125 kuna. Older children and the elderly will pay 50 kunas one way and 75 kunas round trip, and tickets for young children and the disabled will cost 20 kunas one way and 30 kunas round trip .
